Nebraska Baseball: Alex Gordon should have no regrets
The Nebraska baseball legend is retiring.
A former Nebraska baseball star is retiring from major league baseball. Leftfielder Alex Gordon is calling it quits after a 14-year career.
He certainly had a good run on the diamond. A three-time All-Star from 2013-2015, Gordon was also a World Series champion in 2015. In addition to winning the World Series, he won the Gold Glove Award seven times from 2011-2014 and 2017-2019.

Of course, we know what he did during his Nebraska baseball career. He batted .355 with 44 home runs and 189 runs batted in during his career in Lincoln. The 2005 season was particularly memorable. He batted .372 with 19 home runs and 66 runs batted in.
Among his awards in 2005 were the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser trophy, the Baseball America National Player of the Year. He was also a 2005 ESPY Award Finalist for Male College Athlete of the Year.
He certainly made himself known during his time in Lincoln, and established himself as one of the greatest Nebraska baseball players ever to hit the diamond. He was an absolutely electric player to watch, and a player that always played his heart out every time he stepped on the diamond. He never took a play off, and he was a catalyst in every sense of the word.
He also was one of those rare players who was able to achieve success both collegiately and professionally. Too often, you see these players flame out and not do as well in the Major Leagues. That was not the case for Gordon whatsoever. Gordon was able to take his skills to the Major Leagues and become a consistently dependable player for years and years.
It’s sad to see his career end just because he was so fun to watch play. However, he certainly was able to accomplish everything he wanted to during his career. A World Series ring was the icing on the cake, and it was a magical year for the Kansas City Royals organization overall.
I am excited to see what Gordon does in his post-baseball career. He certainly earned the right to do whatever he wants, and he will always have a spot here in Lincoln. He brought Nebraska baseball continued national recognition as he was able to put the program in the spotlight in a positive way.
