Nebraska football  has a tough schedule ahead.

Remember those FPI rankings I told you about Nebraska football’s previous schedule? Well, you can throw those out the window. ESPN released updated FPI predictions in accordance with the new schedule on Monday.

It’s really interesting to see these adjusted rankings. One thing is for certain, the schedule is going to be extremely difficult. Starting with the opener at Ohio State, Nebraska football has a 4.6% chance of winning according to these rankings. Moving on to Wisconsin, Nebraska football has a 12.5% chance of winning. Things look a little better at Northwestern as ESPN gives the Huskers a 34.5% chance of winning.

Moving to the back half of the schedule, ESPN gives Nebraska football a 17.4% chance of winning. Things look a little better for Illinois. The Huskers are given a 66.4% chance of winning. The crucial game against Iowa has Nebraska at a 36.2% chance of winning. Rounding out the season, ESPN gives Nebraska a 59.1% chance of winning at Purdue. They have not put a projection in for Minnesota.

Truthfully, these rankings told me a little bit of what I already knew. The schedule is going to be tough and Nebraska football is undoubtedly going to be the underdogs. However, it seems like they have been the underdogs this entire calendar year.

From being extremely vocal about wanting to play, the finally getting their chance to play and having people doubt them, this is just par for the course for Nebraska. They certainly have players that are up to the challenge. Now, it just about execution.

This schedule in particular may make for some rough Saturdays. However, I said before and I’ll say it again. I am just happy that there is football to be played. This schedule will certainly test Nebraska, and give players and fans alike a chance to see exactly where this team is in terms of growth and development.

I personally am thrilled that there is football coming back. Nebraska certainly has a roster that is filled with exciting players. With exciting players and good competition, this year is certainly means a lot more than most.

Nebraska is going to have to dig deep and really play hard. The team undoubtedly has a tough schedule, but this is what I want to see. I want to see how this program fares against tough competition. It’s the only way that they will be able to get better and have a measurable amount of success.
