The Nebraska Baseball pitchers had a great day.

Nebraska baseball is back, well, sort of. The program participated in a scrimmage on Thursday as 38,000 people watched . One of the things that was noticeable was the pitching of Nebraska baseball. It was noticeable in a good way, something that could not always be said at times last year.

During the scrimmage, each of the pictures combined for 15 strikeouts. One player in particular stood out. Texas A&M transfer Cam Wynne threw in the mid-90s according to the radar. Cade Povich also struck out four batters in two innings. The velocity seemed to be there for the pitchers and they seemed to be able to mix up their stuff pretty well.

Although this is only a scrimmage, and we have yet to see how these pitchers fare in real-game action, it’s encouraging to see that Nebraska baseball was able to get off to a solid start on Thursday. Now, as the season begins relatively soon, the program will look to build off.

You have heard me talk about the pitching prospects in future classes, and that’s all well and good. There was definitely talent to be had on the roster Thursday. Some of the talent carried over from last year, and it was nice to see those players

It’s encouraging to see the pitching do so well, after they struggled last season. Starting pitching was good, but it wasn’t great. They could definitely use some improvement. The bullpen was the thing that was mostly issue.  They could not seem to get batters out when it mattered the most.

The offense for Nebraska baseball has always seemed to be there. That doesn’t seem to have been the issue over the past couple of seasons. With the way the pitching performed on Thursday, it was certainly encouraging to see. This will give the staff some momentum heading into the season. Yes, it was against their own batters and teammates. However, there were some positive takeaways from this scrimmage. The pitching was one of them.
