A former Nebraska football star is making his mark in the NFL.

We all could definitely use some good news, especially when it comes to Nebraska football. Friday we are able to get a little bit of some. Former Nebraska football defensive lineman Khalil Davis has reportedly made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 53-man roster.

This has been a great last year for Davis, who finished his Nebraska football career in style. He recorded eight sacks for Nebraska, and 12 tackles for a loss. He then was able to put together a strong combine. He ran a 4.75 in the 40.  For what it’s worth, the Davis brothers also own two of the six fastest 40-yard times by a defensive lineman weighing more than 300 pounds.

More from Husker Corner

Simply put, he had the year that you want to have before you get drafted. Injury-free and career highs, Davis now looks to translate that into a successful first season with the Buccaneers. I have faith that he’ll be able to do well in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have both a strong offense and defense. One side of the ball usually feeds off the success of another.

I’ll be interested to see how he does. I believe his game truly fits that the current National Football League. He is both a versatile run-stopper and pass-rusher. These days, defensive lineman need to be able to do both in order to succeed. Furthermore, they need to have a little bit of speed to get to the ball carrier. Davis certainly showed that he had that at Nebraska.

Either way, it will be fun to follow a recent Nebraska player in the National Football League. The Buccaneers certainly have a few of them, as Lavonte David and Ndamukong Suh are also on the roster. They have made names for themselves in their own rights.

Next. Updating the Nebraska recruiting big board for September. dark

If you’re a Nebraska fan that does not have an NFL team, Tampa Bay may be for you. That defensive line is certainly stacked, and I’m excited to see Davis in the mix. I will certainly be following his progress closely.
