Wednesday was a great night for Nebraska football.

It kind of goes without saying that I’m still on a little bit of a high from last night. Nebraska football was able to land four-star tight end Thomas Fidone. Perhaps more than that, head coach Scott Frost was able to land a cornerstone player.

There is little doubt that Frost has managed to recruit playmakers for not only the 2021 class, but previous classes. However, a tight end of Fidone’s caliber is on another level in terms of recruiting. He is not only the cornerstone of 2021 class, he is the cornerstone recruit of Scott Frost’s tenure to this point.

I have heard several Nebraska football fans complain about the lack of big-time recruits Frost has landed. For the most part, I was in agreement with them. The coach didn’t really have a big-name recruit that he could turn to in any given class. The 2021 recruiting class certainly has big names, and now we are really seeing the head coach put in a ton of work on the recruiting trail.

The commitment last night was a major win for Scott Frost and the coaching staff. This will undoubtedly open a lot of doors for the program. Recruits see a player like  Fidone coming to Lincoln. Perhaps, they’ll think “Hey maybe I want to go here too.” This was certainly a big commitment for the program in more ways than one.

I could see several big-name prospects wanting to come to Lincoln. This is now the place to be. With the nation’s top tight end committing, other players will likely gravitate towards Memorial Stadium. The domino effect from this should be interesting.

Scott Frost may not have many victories on the field to this point, but he is getting victories in recruiting. The 2021 class is absolutely lethal. They have speed, size, and strength on both sides of the football. After taking some recruiting lumps this month, Frost can point to commitment on Wednesday night and hang his hat on it. That’s not to say he should get complacent. However, he should undoubtedly be happy to have Fidone in the fold. Frost has been looking for a major recruit, and he got it.

I’m happy for Frost, I really am. There is no doubt that he cares about this program and works hard. It’s nice to see the coaching staff’s hard work pay off. Recruiting is a ruthless game. Perhaps nobody knows that better than Nebraska football.
