Moos continues to churn out ideas for a winter Nebraska football season.

As conversations about a potential Nebraska football season in the winter continue, athletic director Bill Moos gave an update on what he thinks the scheduling would be like.

We have heard him bounce around a schedule idea last month. Now, it seems like he is getting a bit more clarity into what a potential season will look like. Truthfully, it’s what I thought would happen all along. The winter season would not be a full 10-game slate but more around the seven or eight-game range.

If this is what has to happen so that it doesn’t mess up the fall 2021 season, then it sounds like the best possible option. This would make sense given that players would be playing two seasons in one calendar year. in terms of health and productivity, shorter might be better.

As Moos indicates, there has been talk with NFL general managers about how that would push back the schedule. There’s a lot of variables at play here, and it’s going to be quite a process to sort everything out. I’ll be interested to see specifically how this affects the NFL calendar in terms of workouts and combines.

My guess is that something like a combine would be pushed back into early spring. Would that affect when the draft is held? That certainly another variable to consider. In any event, there are conversations that have been floating around, and it is safe to say that the NFL portion is being addressed.

"“I thought we had a very productive meeting today (Tuesday), and we also had some conversations with general managers of the NFL teams – three or four of them talking about the player combines and all those things. ‘When are we supposed to have those? Can they alter their schedules?’ Things like that,” Moos said. “Also, discussions starting as to when would be the best time to start a season after the first of the year. So there’s still some debate on that. We’re really just getting started.”"

As the athletic director indicates, things are just getting started. However, it is good to know that there are plans being floated around and people around the sport are talking with one another in order to figure out how to get things done. The less hiccups we can have when the football returns, the better.

Even though I may not always agree with where Moos stands, it is good to see him being so involved and vocal throughout this process.
