Nebraska Football’s 2020 schedule does offer some optimism

I’ve been on record saying that I didn’t like Nebraska football schedule. To me, it’s very tough and doesn’t allow for much room for error. However, a local publication disagrees with me.

In a column written on Saturday, the Nebraska Journal Star had Nebraska as a winner in the schedule change. Their reasoning is certainly sound, as the schedule could have been much worse. Other than the difficult four-game stretch that includes the likes of Ohio State and Wisconsin, the rest of the schedule is doable.

All things considered, the schedule could be considered a win for Nebraska football in my eyes. For one, it pits them up against some of the toughest teams in the country. Secondly, it also allows them to get a sense of big-time games almost every week. If they have any hopes or dreams of making the postseason, there are going to have to get used to playing some tough games.

Nate Head of the Lincoln Journal Star had his own reasoning on why Nebraska was a winner in the schedule realignment. To be honest, he makes a very decent case. As he notes, Nebraska was given Michigan State instead of Michigan. That alone is reason for relief.

"The reshuffled schedule does offer Scott Frost and company — and every other league team — an extra bye week that will benefit the Huskers perhaps more than anyone else.Plus, the Huskers’ crossover game is against Michigan State, which is a better option than the Spartans’ neighbor."

I will be interested to see how it all plays out. The schedule for Nebraska is still difficult, all things .considered. With the talent that Nebraska has this year, I certainly give them a better chance of succeeding with this schedule than last year. Last year, it seemed like there were too many moving parts. This year, everything seems a bit more focused and trending in the upward direction.

In any event, here’s to hoping we do see a season in the fall. Nebraska’s schedule could certainly make for some exciting Saturdays. I’ll be interested to see what decisions are made in the coming weeks.
