Nebraska Football has dodged Moore for the third year in a row.

As you may or may not have heard by now, a Nebraska football foe is not going to be playing this season. Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore has opted out of the 2020 season. That may be big for when Nebraska plays the Boilermakers on November 14.

To be fair, Nebraska has not seen Moore the last two times they have played. Last year, Nebraska lost to Purdue by a 31-27 score after the defense could not make a final stop. A nine-yard run from David Bell sealed the deal, and Purdue was able to escape with the win.

Bell will be back for Purdue. Not all of Purdue’s weapons will be out for this game. However, the loss of more is certainly something that works in Nebraska’s favor. When you talk about playmakers, Moore was certainly one of the better ones in college football. He had the same type of speed that Wan’Dale Robinson does, with the same type of quickness. They are two very similar players in that regard.

The fact that Nebraska football does not have to deal with Moore again is certainly going to make things easier heading into Purdue.  It’s going to give them one less player to worry about. He burst onto the scene in 2018 with 14 receptions for 1,258 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last year, he was hampered by injuries. This limited his production to 29 catches for 387 yards and two touchdowns. However, the games he did play in, he made them count. Take Purdue’s contest against Vanderbilt for example. He caught 13 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown. For a reference point, he only played in four total games on the season.

In what is going to be a difficult schedule overall, Nebraska football is dodging a bullet here by not having to face the wide receiver. It will make life that much easier on the secondary, as well as on Erik Chinander.  With this game falling onto the back half of the schedule, this announcement could not have come at a better time for Nebraska. The Purdue game will happen as Nebraska comes off the bye week, following a gauntlet of games.

Nebraska is certainly has to take care of business, but not having Moore as part of the equation should help. Even still, the huskers will certainly need all hands on deck in what will not be an easy game on the road.
