Predictions have been made for Nebraska football.

It’s August, 1 which means it is time for preseason standing predictions. Nebraska football was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten West according to an unofficial preseason media poll from Cleveland.com.

Nebraska trailed Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Ohio State overwhelmingly received 33 of 34 first-place votes.

As far as Nebraska football’s placement in the standings, I am not surprised. All three teams beat Nebraska handily last year, and they are returning a tremendous amount of talent. Nebraska has a lot of talent in their own right. However, there are a lot of new pieces and moving parts as Scott Frost enters his third year.

Fourth place is the right spot for them. They are certainly not the worst team in the Big Ten West, but they aren’t in that upper-echelon of teams yet. They sort of sit in the middle of the pack in terms of the standings. At their best, I truly believe that they can be an upper-echelon team. They will certainly have to play their best week in and week out. Hopefully they will be able to do that.

Nebraska football has a lot of returning pieces in addition to several newcomers. Offensively, Adrian Martinez comes to Lincoln for his third season. He should be able to right the ship and have a productive year. With playmakers like Wan’Dale Robinson in the fold as well, anything can happen. Nebraska has been able to get some depth at certain positions, and that should be able to help them too.

I feel like this offseason was about getting depth at positions and trying to put as many playmakers on the roster as possible. The Big Ten conference is one where you are going to see talented teams week in and week out.

There are no slouches within the conference. Even the bottom-tier teams played Nebraska hard. Look at Northwestern for example. They took Nebraska to their limits. Thankfully, the Huskers were able to eke out a win.

It will be interesting to see where Nebraska football exactly falls in these standings in real-time. They have the talent to be great, but will they be able to put it all together? Last year, the preseason hype was insane for Nebraska. This year, I feel like it’s a little bit more reserved.

Time will tell how this roster performs. I have high hopes for them and I know you have high hopes for them as well. Here’s to hoping that they can deliver.
