Buford’s commitment was truly a Nebraska Football team effort.
You have heard me talk multiple times about how Nebraska football peer recruiting has really become a staple. You see Nebraska football players all the time tweeting at prospective recruits to come to Lincoln. It could be said that Nebraska football thrives on peer recruiting.
At the very least, it made an impression on Nebraska football’s newest commit, Marcus Buford.
In a report from the World-Herald, Buford said that peer recruiting was one of the reasons why he came here. Specifically, Alante Brown played his part in giving Buford a virtual tour. The bond between the two helped out last weekend as well. Brown gave Buford another tour. There’s something to be said for that.
Both Brown and Buford are prep school guys. Despite playing on the opposite sides of the football, they probably bonded somewhat over prep school experiences. In any event, Brown getting Buford to come here is a sign that guys are trying to recruit within. This is certainly a great development, as that type of unity and bonding will come in handy on the field.
"Why Nebraska? Brown played a “huge role,” Buford said. Brown gave FaceTime tours of the facility. Brown was the guide last weekend when Buford and his family trekked to Lincoln to look around. The friends since grade school always had a relationship based around honesty — often blunt honesty — and the younger buddy never heard a bad word about NU. He saw how quickly Brown acclimated since enrolling last January."
Also worth noting was the fact that the Nebraska football coaching staff was instrumental in getting Buford. More specifically, the way the staff worked together to get the athlete was impressive.
This just speaks to how focused the staff is at being on the same page. The excerpt that Buford told on Saturday reminded me of the coaching staff’s recruiting efforts for Ty Robinson.
"“I’ve spoken to every single Nebraska coach there is through text message or phone – including Coach (Scott) Frost – multiple times,” Brown said. “I can’t even pinpoint one coach who recruited me more than another, and that was a big part of this was knowing the coaching staff was working as one.”"
In any event, it sounds like Buford’s recruitment was a team effort. Between the efforts of Brown and the efforts of the coaching staff, Buford is now here. It sounds like the coaching staff knows how they want to utilize him. As an athlete, the prep star can play many positions.
As for right now, he is the newest Husker.
