Nebraska football has a dynamic wide receiver on their hands.
Ahead of the 2020 season, Nebraska football wide receiver Omar Manning got some love from Rivals.com on Monday. He was ranked the top newcomer in the Big Ten conference in a list the site compiled.
Also on the list are running back Penny Boone from Maryland, wide receiver Julian Fleming from Ohio State, wide receiver AJ Henning from Michigan, and wide receiver Keandre Lambert from Penn State. Rivals gives a glowing review of Manning and notes that his physical size on the perimeter is something that Nebraska football has not had recently.

This type of list really exemplifies the potential that Manning has. Nebraska has elected to go tall with the last couple of classes at wide receiver. Latrell Neville , the latest commitment to Nebraska, is an example of that. It’s interesting that Nebraska wants to go tall with their future wide receivers. It’s a smart move, particularly if they have the speed and athleticism to be game-changers. These days, you need receivers that can go up and get the football. Nebraska now has receivers that have the ability to do that.
The list itself speaks to the fact that the Big Ten has a ton of new talent coming in. It’s also worth noting that four out of the five players on that list were wide receivers. That just means defensive backs will have their work cut out for them in the future. As a fan of offensive football, I certainly love the prospect of watching all of these guys play on Saturdays.
Manning should definitely be viewed as a game-changer. He should be able to bring playmaking ability to the offense. Especially when you take a look at the wide receiver room that Nebraska football has assembled, there is a ton of potential in it.
For the first time in quite a while, there is not a weak spot in the room for Nebraska. All of these wide receiver commits are not going to be receivers that simply come on the field during garbage time. They are in a great position to contribute right now.
Manning should be at the forefront of that. He has all the tools and playmaking ability to be successful. Nebraska quarterbacks are going to enjoy having the opportunity to throw to him. That is certainly a notch in the belts of Scott Frost and the coaching staff. They have been crushing it lately in what is usually a very boring summertime period.
