Nebraska football is in good standing with the tight end.

There could be some good news in regards to a Nebraska football tight end target. Four-star 2021 tight end Thomas Fidone is a “Nebraska lean.”

Fidone is the second overall tight end in his class, and the top player in his class from the state of Iowa per the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 247Sports crystal ball has him going to Nebraska.

Both Mike Farrell and Adam Gorney believe that Nebraska is still very much in the cards for the tight end. This is certainly good news as Nebraska has been trying to fill out the tight end position for the 2021 class.

Fidone would be an absolute game changer for Nebraska football. He is a playmaker in every sense of the word. He has speed that you would normally see out of the wide receiver position. His speed doesn’t make sense as a tight end. Nevertheless, he has the ability to make things happen after the catch, and he gives quarterbacks not only a security blanket, but a player that functions like another outside receiver.

The thought of Fidone coming to the Nebraska football program is one that is certainly exciting. With the mobile quarterbacks Nebraska possesses as well as the playmakers that they have at running back and wide receiver, Fidone  would just be an awesome addition. You have heard me talk all the time about the lack of production at tight end and how Nebraska is trying to make the tight end more of a featured position. Fidone on would certainly give both the quarterbacks and coaches an ultimate weapon.

As Gorney notes, other teams are beginning to take an interest in the tight end.  However, Nebraska still has the upper hand in terms of his recruitment.

"LSU and Michigan are making this interesting, but it still looks like Nebraska is the team to beat. And that’s huge because Fidone should be considered among the top tight ends in this class and he should provide a huge weapon in the Huskers’ offense. He grew up watching Nebraska football, he lives just an hour from campus and there are too many factors leading me in that direction to think he’s going anywhere else. Iowa has great tight end history and then some national powers are getting more involved but Nebraska has a big edge in Fidone’s recruitment right now."

Even Nebraska football wants the tight end to come to Lincoln. You may remember quarterback Heinrich Haarberg’s tweet, saying that him and Fidone are a pair. Giving Haarberg the opportunity to play with Fidone would be awesome. With that pair, we could be looking at the future of Nebraska football.

I am crossing my fingers and hoping that the tight end decides to come to Lincoln. He would just give Scott Frost and his coaching staff another notch to hang their hat on in terms of recruiting. A commitment from a player like Fidone could open the doors for other players to come as well.  A positive domino-effect of commitments would definitely be welcome.
