Bootle should help lock down the Nebraska football secondary.

A Nebraska football defensive back is getting some preseason recognition. DiCaprio Bootle was named to the Lott IMPACT trophy watch list.

According to the award’s official website, the Lott Impact Trophy honors the college football defensive player who exemplifies the award most.

"The IMPACT award is awarded annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of athletics and recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym:"

Bootle will certainly be a huge part of the Nebraska football secondary. Last year, he recorded 17 tackles and a forced fumble to go along with six pass deflections. He was a consistent contributor in the Nebraska secondary.

Now a senior, he will look to usher in a new era of defense for Nebraska football. Currently, the roster is full of inexperienced talent in the secondary. Nevertheless, Bootle is part of a strong unit that figures to be one of the stronger positions for the program in the coming years.

There is no doubt that he makes an impact on the field. There were several times last year where he really helped strengthen the play of the secondary. Although he may be taking on a new role this year, I expect him to still compete at a high level. He will be tasked with defending some of the best passing attacks in all of college football.

More than just football, this award speaks to how he carries himself on and off the field. There are certainly several good candidates for this award, and he is in good company. I suspect that this will not be the only preseason award that a Nebraska football player will be nominated for. Last year, the program got to showcase some of its best young talent. This year, I expect that will be the case once again.

Now a senior, Bootle will be tasked with mentoring and leading the next group of players. For the sake of the program, hopefully everything goes smoothly.
