Nebraska football adds another body to the tight end room.

As many of you know by now, Nebraska football added some depth on Saturday. Jared Buback announced that he would walk on to the Nebraska football program. A tight end, he plans to start the voluntary workouts with the team on Monday.

He has a little bit of history with the program. He committed to Nebraska five years ago before deciding to attend Arizona State on a scholarship. Joining Nebraska as a graduate transfer, he has been around the area according to a report from Brian Christopherson of 247 Sports.

Buback played in 17 games for Arizona State. He was able to play in 10 games in the 2018 season.

Although his name may not jump off the page, adding Buback to the Nebraska football tight end room is certainly important. There was a time, specifically earlier this year, where the tight end did not look promising. There was not a ton of depth there, and the outlook on the room was kind of grim.

Now, things look a bit better. In addition to Burbach, you have Travis Vokolek, Jack Stoll, Austin Allen, and Kurt Rafdal. Don’t forget about Chris Hickman either. He will probably lineup at wide receiver, but he can also be used at the tight end spot.

Measuring in at six-foot-five, 242 pounds, the Lincoln, Nebraska native could be a good red-zone threat. I’m curious to see how the Nebraska football program will use the tight end in the offense. As I have said many times, they shied away from using the tight end position last year. That certainly needs to change.

With the amount of weapons that Nebraska has on the outside as well as depth at running back, adding tight end as a position that they can get production from is certainly a positive.

I’ll be interested to see exactly how Buback fits into the equation for Nebraska. They certainly have a bunch of options at tight end, and they certainly can use them. If there’s one thing that I want to see from this offense this year, it’s production from the tight end spot. If they can get that, this offense will be a force to be reckoned with.
