Nebraska football get another big commitment on Friday.

Nebraska football received a commitment on Friday night from linebacker Drew Monin.  This is a huge get for the Nebraska football defense.

Monin played high school football at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut. He recorded 351 total tackles and 78 tackles for a loss. He also tallied 12.5 sacks and 15 forced/recovered fumbles in his high school career. This kid can play, and he plays aggressively.

Monin is not the only Avon player on the roster. Defensive lineman Casey Rogers also went to the school.

He brings an instant playmaker to the Nebraska football defense. He is not afraid to make a tackle, and he is very instinctual in how he does it. When you watch his film, you can see that he reads the play and then goes over to make the tackle. He does it quickly, not allowing the ball carrier to gain any extra yards or gain separation. He plays with aggression and physicality.

Measuring in at 6-foot-one, 220 pounds, Monin is as agile as he is physical. He hunts down the ball carrier and wraps up to make the tackle. He will be able to help Nebraska sure up their run defense in particular. The Huskers have needed big-bodied playmakers over the past couple of seasons, and they are beginning to get them. It’s good to see the coaching staff focusing on those types of players in this recruiting cycle.

The best part about Monin’s story is that he is a preferred walk-on. That will make his playing time even sweeter. Lately, it seems as though several walk-on’s are choosing to leave the program. However, I could definitely see Monin staying and making an impact.

I personally am excited to see what he can do for the Nebraska football program. Being from the New England area myself, I always like to see when fellow New Englanders make it with the bigger programs. Overall, this is another huge get for the Blackshirts, and is in line with the emphasis on defense.
