Nebraska Football offers Heinrich Haarberg: Can the program land him?
Nebraska Football made the offer on Monday.
Nebraska football has officially offered one of their own. Monday, the program extended an offer to 2021 quarterback Heinrich Haarberg.
Haarberg is the 19th overall dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class, and the fourth overall player in his class from the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
In addition to Nebraska, he also has offers from Buffalo, Boston College, Central Michigan, and Harvard.
Last month, I kind of put down the idea that Nebraska needed to extend an offer to him. I said that they had a full quarterback room and that there was really no room for him. Since then, some things have changed. Most notably, the transfer of Noah Vedral has left a spot open in the quarterback room. Now, Nebraska can fill that spot with somebody like Haarberg.
Landing Haarberg would also help Nebraska gain a little bit more credibility in the state for recruiting. Nebraska has landed a couple of prospects in their backyard, but I would definitely like to see them build a fence around Nebraska. Having a quarterback, from Nebraska, who played high school football in Nebraska, suit up on Saturdays at Memorial Stadium would be awesome.
There was also this line of thinking that Nebraska football may skip out on recruiting the quarterback position. There was talk that they would evaluate the position more so in the 2022 class . That line of thinking has seemed to have change as well. Having a Nebraska-born quarterback in the quarterback room would undoubtedly help the culture of the program. Furthermore, Haarberg is just a talented player overall. Nebraska could definitely use what he brings to the table.
I’ll be interested to see if Nebraska football can land him. With his recruitment, there is not a lot of big-time schools that are a threat to Nebraska. There is no Iowa involved as far as I know, there is no Minnesota involved in his recruitment either . Those two schools in particular have been thorns in the side of the Nebraska football program.
The Huskers should have a clear shot at landing him provided everything goes well. I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
