Nebraska football is on the list for another big -time playmaker.

Nebraska football has been busy recruiting, and late Saturday night, a linebacker announced his top four schools. Drew Monin, who plays at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut, had Nebraska listed in that group.

Monin recorded 351 career total tackles and 78 tackles For a loss. He also proved very adept at getting to the passer, recording 12.5 sacks. With 15 forced/recovered fumbles and two interceptions in his career, he proved to be a ferocious playmaker at the high school level.

For his efforts at Avon, he was named an All-Erickson League linebacker three times.

In addition to Nebraska, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, and Merrimack were also on his list. For those who don’t know, Merrimack is a smaller Division I school based in Massachusetts.

I know his name probably doesn’t jump off the page for many of you. I had to look him up, as I had never heard of him before. What I saw when I watched his highlights was a player that is aggressive and instinctive. As soon as the ball was snapped and the quarterback threw to his receiver, Monin went up and made a play. That is going to suit him very well at the big-time level, and his play style fits in line with what Nebraska football is trying to recruit. They need to get more aggressive on defense, and he would be able to help them with that.

It seems like they have focused on the defensive side of the football heavily in the 2021 class. The defensive side of the football is an area that they need to continue to recruit heavily. They have already landed some impact playmakers in the 2021 class, and I hope the good momentum continues. Nebraska needs to continue to get linebackers and players that can play the position with aggression.  Monin certainly fits the bill.

I’ll be completely honest here. I don’t care what level of football these players come from or what state they come from or if they are from a smaller school. If they can play, they can play. That’s what I see when I look at Monin’s film. Hopefully, he can be used as a depth piece to help out Nebraska if he commits here.

Monin certainly has the talent to succeed. There is little doubt about that. I’ll be interested to see if he can parlay his skills to have a successful college football career. I will definitely be watching his recruitment closely. Being from the New England area, having a player from Connecticut who is being offered by Nebraska is certainly exciting in of itself.
