Nebraska Football is recruiting hard in Florida.

It’s definitely worth noting how well Nebraska football is recruiting in the state of Florida. Particularly with these last couple of classes, it seems like they are making an effort to recruit down there.

When you look at these two classes alone, you have Marcus Fleming, Ronald Delancey, and Patrick Payton. Travis Fisher in particular has been doing very well recruiting the state.

It’s sort of interesting when you think about the fact that Nebraska, a school in the Midwest, is recruiting the South so well. The South is normally a hotbed for teams like Georgia, all of the Florida schools, South Carolina, Alabama, etc. I wouldn’t necessarily peg Nebraska as a school that could even gain ground in Florida. However, Scott Frost and his coaching staff are making it a point to recruit down there.

Particularly with Miami Northwestern, Nebraska football is beginning to establish a pipeline of sorts down there. With the amount of talent that this state has, it is certainly great news that Nebraska has seemed to manage to make a name for themselves in Florida. Now, they probably aren’t going to land as many big-time, big-name recruits as say Florida or Florida State, but they do have the option of recruiting down there and feeling confident in doing so.  As Brian Christopherson of 247Sports noted in his piece Friday, people are taking notice.

"“All these kids grow up playing in the same part of town,” said Andrew Ivins, who covers Miami football and recruiting in the area for 247Sports. “While Patrick didn’t play for Northwestern (High) last year, I’m sure he’s crossed paths with Marcus Fleming and Ronald Delancy, but I really do think Travis Fisher is having an impact down here. It’s a name I keep hearing more and more. Patrick mentioned to me that Scott Frost is really involved in his recruitment as well.“I don’t think Nebraska’s planting a flag to get everyone, but they look to be one of the hotter teams down here, becoming very successful at pulling these kids out.”"

Me personally, I always have given the coaching staff a lot of flak for not securing their own backyard. It seems like some top-level Nebraska prospects are going to other schools in the Big Ten.  Look at Avante Dickerson for example. He committed to Minnesota on April 17. Hopefully, Nebraska will be able to land him from the gophers. There is still a lot of time between now and Early Signing Day.

Even still, it’s become clear that Nebraska is focusing a large amount of their efforts in the Sunshine State. I am totally okay with them establishing something there even if it means possibly not building a proverbial fence around the state of Nebraska. With Scott Frost having connections to the area, having served as the head coach of UCF, it would be great to see the Cornhuskers continue to find success in the state.

It seems like many coaches have their hallmark area of recruiting. For Scott Frost and specifically Travis Fisher, Florida could be theirs. Either way, it’s encouraging to see them going after prospects in the state. There is certainly a lot of talent to be had there, and it has led to a high success rate to this point.
