Nebraska football is continuing to build classes for the future.

Nebraska football is extending offers to defensive players down South, and over the weekend, they offered 2022 cornerback the Laterrence Welch. Welch is not ranked in either the 247Sports Composite or regular 247Sports rankings.

Despite being unranked, he has an impressive offer sheet. In addition to Nebraska, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss have all extended offers his way. My guess is that he will be a recruit that bursts onto the scene.

When I watch his highlights, what I noticed most is his ability to pursue the football. As soon as the quarterback throws the ball, he is already coming down on the receiver to make the play. Measuring in at six-foot-one, 180 pounds, Welch is the perfect size to play on the outside. The sheer speed in pursuit is quite impressive. He would be able to give Nebraska football a solid tackler and someone who could come down and make a play.

He would also fit the Nebraska football mold of a physical corner. That’s exactly what Nebraska football needs moving forward. We saw a couple times last season where the corners would struggle with the physicality of the receivers. The Indiana game comes to mind.

Currently, Nebraska football is beginning to build the 2022 class. They have no commitments in the class, and they certainly need to continue the good luck they have had in recruiting. Of course, the results will speak for themselves. However, I’m impressed with the classes that Nebraska football has put together. Hopefully, the classes themselves will lead to results.

Welch would certainly add another dynamic to the secondary. I will be intrigued to see if Nebraska continues to extend offers in that part of the region. There are some extremely talented football players down there. Frost has traditionally done well down in the southern part of the country, particularly in Florida.
