The Nebraska football alum has found a home.

By all accounts it was a successful draft for Nebraska football. Several Huskers were able to find homes in the NFL, and one of them was Lamar Jackson. He signed a contract with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.

First off, I am surprised he went undrafted. I thought he could at least be valuable to a team in the fifth or sixth round. Aside from that, I am happy he found a home in the National Football League. Out of all the draft prospects that Nebraska football had, I thought he was perhaps the most ready out of all of them.

The New York Jets have two solid quarterbacks on their roster as a result of the draft. They also took Virginia cornerback Bryce Hall with the 158th overall pick.

He heads to New York having put together an impressive resume for Nebraska. In four years of play, he tallied 123 tackles and five interceptions.

His best year statistically in Lincoln came last year. He recorded 40 tackles and a sack, showing he was a good pursuit defender. He also showed his ball hawking skills, recording three interceptions.

Jackson should undoubtedly help a New York secondary that gave up 236.1 yards per game in 2019.  They also gave up 25 touchdowns. In no way, shape, or form were the Jets the worst secondary in the National Football League. However, having Jackson certainly helps the organization compete against what are going to be some good young quarterbacks in the AFC East.

I’m excited to see Jackson had to the National Football League. He is definitely a NFL-ready player.  We saw how much of an impact he made on game day, particularly when it seemed like the rest of the Nebraska football secondary was struggling mightily. Hopefully, he can bring that same kind of intensity to New York.
