The Nebraska football virtual spring game was a success.

For those of you who watched the Nebraska football virtual spring game, it was quite a success on Saturday. 25,000 live viewers were able to watch the game in what was a nice substitute for the real thing. Of course, it cannot compare to the real thing, but we are dealing with unprecedented circumstances.

In terms of star-power, this game had at all. From the likes of Eric Crouch, to Tommie Frazier, to Lavonte David, Ndamukong Suh, to Rich Glover, every Nebraska player young and old that made a tremendous impact on the program was in the game. It was truly a fun thing to watch.

Perhaps even better was that the game featured a spirited comeback by the White Team. Winning 60-57, the Red Team was up 57-41 with three minutes remaining in the game.

Seeing things like Crouch throwing to Stanley Morgan Jr. was awesome. Seeing Ahman Green in Nebraska football colors again was even better. As a big video gamer, seeing NCAA Football back on the screen was a blast. I certainly had fun watching.

Aside from just how fun it was, this game really spoke to the tradition that Nebraska football has had. It was certainly highlighted by the amount of star-power that was on the field.

When you talk about a guy like Eric Crouch, you are talking about a Heisman-winner who still holds many Nebraska records to this day.

Ameer Abdullah and Ahman Green are the second and third all-time leading rushers for Nebraska. Green set an Orange Bowl record with 206 yards and two touchdowns. He broke the previous record sent by Roland sales of Arkansas, who ran for 205 yards.

Frazier is fifth all-time in passing touchdowns with 43 in his career. He is also ninth all-time with 3,521 passing yards in his Nebraska football career. We have already talked about the accomplishments of Crouch, and he is certainly getting his due, having been named to several Hall of Fame’s in the past couple of weeks.

Stanley Morgan Junior is the programs all-time leader in receptions with 189 and receiving yards with 2,747. He also has the most yards in a single season with 1,004, beating his own record of 986 set in 2017. He is also third and receiving touchdowns for his career and is in a tie for third with Nate Swift with 10 receiving touchdowns in a single season.

Aside from just statistics that I am throwing at you, this brings home a larger point. This virtual spring game brought to light how much talent Nebraska truly has had over the years. For some younger fans, it was a great reminder of the history of the program. For others, it was a great look back. Whatever the case may be, this game was a ton of fun and a nod to both past and present.
