Nebraska football continues to think lineman a point of emphasis.

Nebraska football is continuing to stay busy recruiting the class of 2022. Tuesday, they extended an offer to offensive lineman Lucas Heyer.

Heyer is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he is accounted for in the overall 247Sports rankings. A three-star recruit, he is the 29th overall offensive tackle in his class, and the second -ranked player in his class from the state of Minnesota.

He has an interesting offer sheet that features many  Nebraska football rivals. Arizona State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa have all extended offers his way. Nebraska has always liked recruiting offensive lineman and they have done so heavily in the past couple of classes. In the 2021 class alone, they have landed Teddy Prochazka and Henry Lutovsky.

Although Heyer may not have any rankings on the major recruiting sites, there is one thing he does have. He is built like an offensive lineman, and his size is exactly what Nebraska football needs moving forward.  He measures in at 6-foot-5, 307 pounds.

When I watch his highlights, I see a tremendous run-blocker as well as someone who can protect the passer. He is stays square with his man, and does not allow the defensive lineman to get the upper hand. That is crucial for a Nebraska football line looking to rebuild quickly. Nebraska really wanted to address the line in these next couple of classes. Now, it appears they are doing so.

When I’m really interested in is how Nebraska is going to fare with Iowa and Minnesota. It seems like these three schools have been battling for the past couple of recruits, and this seems to be no different. It would be disheartening to see Heyer go to a rival school, but that’s what makes recruiting so exciting. Hopefully, unlike past battles with Iowa and Minnesota, Nebraska can win this one.

Heyer is definitely a lineman that is under the radar. However, he has tremendous potential and talent. I would love to see Nebraska land him as he would add immediate size to their line and continue to build a pipeline of sorts  on the line. Nebraska is beginning to get the types of players that can make an impact, and Heyer would add to that.
