Nebraska Football is well-stocked at quarterback.

It’s no secret that Nebraska football likes to recruit quarterbacks. That has been one of their most heavily-recruited positions.

After missing out on Peter Costelli Saturday, one would think that they would extend an offer to a local product. Henrich Haarberg would be the local product in question. However, they don’t really need to make him a priority right now.

Haarberg has offers from a bunch of smaller schools. Boston College, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Harvard, Massachusetts, Northern Illinois, and Northern Iowa are just some of the names that have extended an offer his way. Nebraska football is actually one of the bigger schools on his offer list. It makes sense. Haarberg, a native of Kearney is right in Nebraska’s backyard,

Haarberg is not currently ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is however ranked in the 247Sports overall rankings. He is a three-star recruit, the 16th overall dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class, and the fourth overall player in his class from the state of Nebraska.

When you take a look at the quarterback room, things are pretty solid. Luke McCaffrey is going to be a sophomore in 2020. Adrian Martinez and Matt Masker are going to be juniors. Andrew Bunch and Noah Vedral will be seniors, and the program has extended offers to seven pro-style quarterbacks and five dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2022 class. The quarterback position is well taken care of for Nebraska football.

I’m not saying that offering Haarberg would be a bad thing. He would certainly be a tremendous talent, and it would be fun following a local talent. However, Costelli’s announcement that he would be heading to Utah is not a death blow.

There is a lot of talent in the quarterback room right now for Nebraska football. The coaching staff also seems to be making quarterback a priority recruiting position in 2022.

There are many talented quarterbacks in the 2022 class, and that’s why Nebraska should hold off on Haarberg. They would be wise to use that scholarship somewhere else. They undoubtedly have a lot of positions to fill. Quarterback is not a position of absolute need. Nebraska football would be wise to stock up defensively.

Going after the local kid is certainly tempting, but it’s not what Nebraska needs at the moment.
