The Nebraska basketball star is entering the transfer portal.

In what was a bit of an expected move, point guard Cam Mac is out of the Nebraska basketball program after one season. He will enter the transfer portal

Mack made the announcement Thursday.  A couple weeks ago, he declared for the NBA draft. He had set at the time he was going to keep his eligibility, but that does not appear to be the case. According to a report from the Omaha World-Herald, this means that if Mack does not find a professional basketball home, he will return to college basketball.

Mack has told the media that he wants to be closer to home. His mother is battling breast cancer in Texas.

Just looking at this from a basketball standpoint, this is a difficult blow for Nebraska. They did pick up transfer guard Kobe Webster, so it seems like they have been preparing for this. Nevertheless, Mack was an electric player who could put up a triple-double with ease. He truly took over some games, and his explosiveness to the basket and sharp three-point shooting were undoubtedly an asset on a team that struggled to score baskets in general.

In one season at the point guard spot for Nebraska basketball, Mack averaged 12 points and 4.5 rebounds to go along with 6.4 assists. The addition of Webster to the roster will undoubtedly be able to help Nebraska moving forward. They also have been active in trying to find additional point guards for the future.

It was certainly fun to watch Cam Mack for one season. He truly was a playmaker every time he stepped on the floor. You never knew what you were going to get night and night out. You could get a 30-point game, or you could get a triple-double. Whatever Mack put together on the stat sheet, it was usually a solid effort night in and night out. Hopefully, he will be able to find a situation that works for him moving forward.
