Nebraska football offered a 2022 quarterback on Wednesday.
Nebraska football has been busy offering top prospects, and Wednesday, they extended an offer to 2022 four-star quarterback Ty Simpson.
Simpson is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he is ranked in the 247Sports overall rankings. He has a 93 overall numerical rating, and is the third overall dual-threat quarterback in his class. He is the top player in the state of Tennessee.
As is the case with most of these top prospects, Nebraska football is not the only one fighting for Simpson. Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and Georgia are just some of the schools extending offers his way. Simpson is the type of prospect that Nebraska would be silly not to put an offer out for. However, they are definitely going to have some tough competition for him.
Simpson would bring immediate electricity to the Nebraska offense. When I watch his film, I see a player that can both run with the football and one who also has a tremendous pocket presence. Simpson is the type of quarterback that I truly believe will be a normalcy for the coming years.
More and more, we are seeing dual-threat quarterbacks in the game. We will begin to see more playmaking quarterbacks in the mold of a Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. I’m not saying that all high school kids will have the same amount of talent. However, that same style of football will begin to become a normalcy.
Currently, the 2022 Nebraska football recruiting class has no one in it. This of course should change fairly soon, and it will be interesting to see who else Nebraska brings in. They have done a really solid job of recruiting these last two classes. Now, they need to keep that momentum up. Part of keeping the momentum up stems from being successful on the field. Last year, the results weren’t there. Hopefully, the results will begin to show when football resumes.
I really like how Nebraska football is continuing to go after quarterbacks. This is a position where they have succeeded in recruiting. I would expect them to continue to push hard for several of the top signal-callers in the country. Frost knows what he wants out of a quarterback. Now, as he continues to put his mold on the team, I suspect we will see more strong-armed mobile quarterbacks in Lincoln. The game is certainly headed in that direction and I don’t see it changing anytime soon.
