Nebraska Football: Matt Lubick has a lot of work to do during spring ball
The Nebraska football coach has a lot of work ahead of him.
By now you have all heard the news about Nebraska football wide receiver JD Spielman. He is going to take a personal leave. I definitely understand his decision, and I hope he gets better. Not having Spielman means that some of the younger wide receivers will need to step up. Have no fear, plenty of younger wide receivers are available.
You have a player like Wan’Dale Robinson. He made a tremendous impact last season, and he is a veteran for the wide receiver group. Only a sophomore, he made a tremendous impact on Nebraska football last year.

Beyond Robinson, Matt Lubick does not have a ton of veteran experience to work with. However, he is going to work with names that have a ton of potential. It safe to say this is a big spring for both coach and his players.
When you look at names like Demariyon Houston, Jamie Nance, and Alante Brown, you can definitely surmise that the talent is there. After all, I’ve hyped them up and for good reason. Those three are very talented and definitely have a chance to make an impact for Nebraska football. This spring in particular, they’re going to have to figure out who the next man up is going to be. I am intrigued by all three of them, specifically Brown. He came into the program with a lot of fanfare, and I want to see if he lives up to it.
Along with Robinson being a veteran wide receiver, Kade Warner will undoubtedly be in the mix as well. He didn’t see much action last year after having a solid freshman campaign. Now a junior, Lubick will have to rely on him quite a bit over the course of the spring.
I must stress that we are looking at the wide receiver position over the course of the spring. Spielman may return in time for the start of training camp, although that is not a definite.
This will be a spring of learning for both the coach and his wide receivers. This will be a challenge for Lubick, but will be a good test to see how much he can get out of his players. This probably is not what he was envisioning when he took the job, but that just shows how quickly the college football world moves.
The offense is going to need to adjust without Spielman at the moment. Lubick certainly has the reputation as a stellar coach, Now he is going to have to show he is warranted of that reputation. Yes, it is only spring ball. However, in what is a critical season for Nebraska football, everybody needs to get up to speed.
With so many young, moving parts, Nebraska football is going to need everybody to be ready for the opener against Purdue.
