Nebraska baseball was able to come away with the victory on Sunday.

When you look at the box score, things certainly don’t seem pretty. Nevertheless, Cade Povich’s  start on Sunday was enough for Nebraska baseball to get a win they desperately needed. They defeated Arizona State 18-10 to get one win out of the three-game series.

Cade Povich pitched five innings on Sunday, giving up 10 hits and eight earned runs. That was the bad part of his box score. The good part was that he struck out seven batters and managed to record his first win as a member of the Nebraska baseball team.

Again, this was a game where the offense ruled the day. Both teams were able to feast on the pitching of the other. Nebraska had five home runs in total. Leighton Banjoff was an absolute monster for Nebraska baseball in this game. He recorded four hits in six at-bats. Recording six runs batted in, he smacked two home runs as well. He also proved to be adept on the base path, stealing two bases.

This was a much-needed win for a Nebraska team that desperately needed a positive outing. The offense certainly showed up on Sunday, scoring 18 runs on 17 hits in 44 at-bats. All things considered, Povich’s outing was exactly what Nebraska needed. Yes, he wasn’t the most efficient. However, he did manage to set down several batters. This was a very up-and-down start, but it led to a victory.

The balance that I wanted Nebraska baseball to show a couple of days ago finally reared its head. It was nice to see, and hopefully Sunday’s win could be used as momentum moving forward. All that needs to be done now is to fix the pitching.

A couple of outings have seen high strikeout totals. Garrett Stroh has done a nice job of striking out batters, he just needs more control. Povich seems to be finding his way as well.

All in all, the win on Sunday against Arizona State was a big win for Nebraska baseball. They are certainly no slouch. Arizona State is a very talented team, and they certainly gave Nebraska baseball all they could handle over the weekend. Thankfully, Nebraska baseball was able to take at least one game this weekend. Hopefully, they will be able to at least hang in there for their next couple of games. The schedule is not going to get any easier, and they need to have all hands on deck.
