Can Nebraska basketball get a win?

Nebraska basketball is set to take Northwestern on Sunday afternoon in what is aiming to be a bounce-back game for the program. Nebraska basketball has not won since the beginning of January.

Northwestern is coming off a loss of their own. They lost to Illinois on February 27. In defeat, Pat Spencer played well. In 33 minutes of action, he went eight-of-13 from the floor and made both shots from the three-throw line.  Miller Kopp was also a great secondary scorer in this game, in 33 minutes of action, he went five-of-11 from the field and two-of-four from behind the arc.

Nebraska basketball just could not get out of their own way in their last game on Thursday. In their last game against Ohio State, Dachon Burke and Cam Mack scored a combined 25 points. Nevertheless, it was not enough to defeat the Buckeyes. Nebraska went through extensive scoring droughts in this game, and Ohio State was able to maintain their lead.

Nebraska is ranked No. 142 while Northwestern is ranked No. 135 in the latest Kenpom rankings . Thankfully for Nebraska, this should be one of the more balanced games that have played as of late. They have had a difficult schedule, and Sunday could be a day where level competition could help provide a win.

Key to the game

The key to the game for Nebraska basketball is to make sure they play tight defense on Miller Kopp and Pat Spencer specifically. When these two teams met on January 11, Miller had 15 points while Spencer had 14. In particular, Kopp hit some clutch three-point shots at the end of the game to seal the victory.

Nebraska will have to play those two tightly. Perhaps even more important than that, they need to rotate quickly. If they want to win this basketball game, they need to make sure to play strong on the perimeter. If they don’t, it could be a long evening.
