The Nebraska football wide receiver needs to have a solid spring.
It’s no secret that the Nebraska football wide receiving group is going to be stacked in 2020. There is going to be a ton of depth once all the newcomers get here. For now, certain players have to make the most of spring ball and show that they deserve a spot on the team.
One of the players in question is wide receiver Jaevon McQuitty. There is no doubt that he has talent, it is just of matter of the fact that Nebraska already has a ton of wide receivers on the roster. For starters, Nebraska has Jamie Nance and Demaryion Houston waiting in the wings. McQuitty is going to have to battle with receivers on the roster before the rest of the freshmen wide receivers show up.

Where does he fit in? Last year, he saw the field a bit. Under Troy Walters, he caught two passes for 14 yards in three games. He needs to make the most of spring ball . Spring ball practices give him the best shot at showing the coaches what he’s got. I’m interested to see what he can bring to the table. I wrote last year that he was a player who needed to improve over the summer, and it didn’t show up in the box score, but it’s not all his fault. The playing time was not there.
It is for that reason that he needs to have a solid spring. He is a receiver that has been with the program for a little bit now. He is not like these fresh-faced newcomers looking to make a mark. With such a talented freshman class coming in, McQuitty is going to need to show that he can make an impact.
He’s obviously not going to be able to show what he can do over the course of the game just yet, but he is at a little bit of a disadvantage. Newcomers such as Omar Manning and Alante Brown come in with a tremendous amount of pedigree. McQuitty does not have as much pedigree. It’s not fair that it works that way, but in that sense, the odds are already stacked against him.
If anything, he needs these spring practices to show that he can be counted on as part of the receiving equation. Nebraska football is going to need to have a better offense in 2020. I think he can be a part of it. I also think there are a ton of bodies at the receiver position. He needs to use this spring ball to show that he can stand out from the rest of the pack.
