Nebraska Basketball: Kobe King could help program take next step
The future of Nebraska basketball got a lot better on Wednesday.
Nebraska basketball is about to get a lot better. Wednesday, they received a commitment from Wisconsin guard Kobe King.
According to a report from ESPN, King told the Wisconsin State Journal that he told coaches and teammates that he was leaving before Wisconsin’s game against Iowa.
King will bring an immediate boost to Nebraska. He started in 19 games this season for the Badgers, averaging 10 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest. His best game to this point in the season was against Indiana in December. He scored 24 points.

He was heating up in the month of January, scoring 21 points against Illinois. He also managed to be productive against Nebraska basketball, playing in 30 minutes and finishing with nine points and five assists.
The thing I’m looking at with this transfer here is his eligibility. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining and is slated to apply for a waiver to play immediately next fall according to a report from ESPN. Two seasons of eligibility is enough time for him to make an impact, and it will allow him the chance to experience on-court growth for the Cornhuskers.
This is a huge boost for Nebraska basketball program that needs this type of veteran playmaker. Although he is not a veteran necessarily in the eligibility sense of the word, he is a player who has been through the Big 10 basketball ranks. He will be another scorer that will go along with Cam Mack among others. In a season where Nebraska basketball is struggling, the fact that King is coming in is reassuring. This already has me excited for next season.
I honestly didn’t think he would pick Nebraska. I thought he would go somewhere with a program that is a bit more solid in terms of foundation. Nevertheless, this is a big get for Nebraska basketball program that needs a spark right now. This gives them instant offense as well as a player who can take over games. Hopefully, King will be able to do it with consistency. If anything, Nebraska needs some consistency right now.
This is a big win for the coach Fred Hoiberg and the basketball program. I’m excited to see what King can do in Lincoln, and hopefully he will be able to have a tremendous impact. He certainly has all the talent in the world to be successful, and I’m hoping he can bring that talent to Lincoln. I could see an NIT tournament berth in the future for Nebraska basketball. King will undoubtedly help the program get there.
