Nebraska football has made the cut for Johnson.
Over the weekend, Nebraska football was announced to be in the top three for a 2021 receiver. Keegan Johnson, who hails from Bellevue, Nebraska, announced his top three of Iowa, Kansas State, and Nebraska.
Johnson is ranked the second overall player in the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. It is great to see that the program is in the mix for a talented player right in their backyard. Head coach Scott Frost has done a nice job of trying to build a proverbial fence around Nebraska. There is a ton of talent around the area, and it’s great to see that the program wants to fill the roster with as many Nebraska-bred players as possible.
Measuring in at six-foot-one, 180 pounds, Johnson has the ability to be versatile. His speed would serve him well in the secondary, and he also has the ability to be a solid wide receiver. In looking at his highlights, he played both sides of the ball at the high school level. He would be able to give Nebraska a playmaker on both offense and defense. Personally, I would love to see what he would be able to do on offense. His speed could be utilized in the open field and give Nebraska an additional explosive playmaker.
He is listed as a wide receiver, and he would be able to help the passing game. He would give Nebraska another weapon that could really help them gain a chunk of yards on each catch. Nebraska football loves the smaller wide receivers anyway, and Johnson would certainly fit the bill. That is certainly not a knock on the program’s recruiting style. Smaller wide receivers have done much better for them as opposed to bigger, taller receivers.
Currently, the 2021 Nebraska football recruiting class is ranked 22nd nationally and sixth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. Adding Johnson may help the Nebraska recruiting class move up a few spots. They already have a solid base of talent. Now, it is all about adding to it.
Hopefully , Nebraska will be able to land him. It would be great to land a local kid. Not only that, Johnson has a tremendous amount of talent. It would be a win-win for both player and program. I’ll be interested to see how his recruitment plays out, and if Iowa and Nebraska start a recruiting battle for him.
