Nebraska basketball is said to still be in the mix for the talent guard.

It’s crazy when you think about the recruitment of Hunter Sallis. The combo-guard from Omaha is the fourth overall combo-guard in the 2021 class, and the top player from his class in the state of Nebraska. Quite simply, he can ball. Other programs are taking notice of this.

According to a report by Mike Schaefer of 247Sports, Sallis has been getting offers from some of the top programs in the country. Gonzaga and Kansas are two of the teams have been going hard after him. It would make sense considering is the 42nd overall player in the country for this recruiting cycle.

When you look at what he can do, it’s easy to see why he is so highly regarded. He has the ability to drive to the basket. He also has an extremely smooth jumper that he can pull up from mid-range.

He is the type of athlete that Nebraska basketball desperately needs in this program. Don’t get me wrong, they already have very talented players. Just look at guys like Cam Mack and Dachon Burke for example. They are extremely talented. However, Sallis has the talent to take the program to the next level.

I’m a bit surprised that Nebraska basketball is still in the mix for him to be completely honest. He is getting a bunch of offers from top-tier programs. I would’ve thought that Nebraska basketball would have taken a bit of a backseat. Especially in a rebuilding year, the program may not look very attractive right now. I would love to see him stay in-state. The likelihood of that happening is anyone’s guess.

All we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to another school. His recruitment has taken a meteoric rise of sorts and that’s a credit to his talent and what he brings to the table. It’s fun to see a local kid garner so much national attention. You can never make any guarantees in recruiting. He has as good a chance as anybody of landing here. I’ll be interested in watching his recruitment, just due to the fact that he is continuing to make headlines.

I do worry that his rise to stardom so to speak will result in him not coming to Lincoln. At the end of the day, he will be fun to watch no matter where he goes. That is, as long as Nebraska basketball does not have to face him multiple times a year.
