Nebraska basketball continues to build the program.

Nebraska basketball continues to recruit hard as the program rebuild continues. Monday, they extended an offer to 2021 guard Elbert Ells.

Ells hails from Tallahassee Community College. The guard has played in 19 contests this season, scoring 14.5 points and 4.6 assists per contest. He has also proven to be an apt three-point shooter, shooting 43.4% from beyond the arc.

In addition to Nebraska, Ells also has offers from Ole Miss, East Carolina, and Texas A&M. Measuring in at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, he is the ideal size for a guard.

Nebraska basketball has had success in the junior-college ranks as Cam Mack is carrying the torch on this roster so far. I am all for adding junior-college players to rosters. Particularly with this basketball program, having veterans on the roster who have experienced the rigors of college basketball is crucial. That adds balance to this team, as younger players will be a focus for this program moving forward.

Guards are a huge part of this Nebraska basketball program. As we are seeing with Mack, they are focused on offense and moving the ball around to different players. Mack is a sophomore this year, and only has two more seasons with Nebraska. It is wise for the Nebraska basketball coaching staff to continue stocking up on talented guards. Offering Ells allows them to at least put their hat in the ring for a talented player.
I will be interested to see who else they offer at the guard position. It’s clear that coach Fred Hoiberg wants his guards to be explosive playmakers who can both drive to the basket and shoot the three. Not only that, he wants players with experience already in his program as he continues his rebuild. I give him credit for at least staying consistent to his vision for the program moving forward.
