After watching last year’s Nebraska football team, it was no secret that the program had to do some work in the offseason if they wanted to compete with the rest of the Big Ten Conference.

In judging by how they’ve recruited to this point, it is evident that they have put the effort into addressing  weaknesses. One of the biggest problems from last year was that they didn’t have any playmaking wide receivers. Perhaps the biggest problem that they had last year was their lack of pass rushers.

Between those two things, opposing teams were able to game plan for Nebraska rather easily.

Speaking on the weekly Sports Nightly Radio Show on Wednesday, Scott Frost noted that edge rushers and playmaking receivers were two things that the coaching staff identified as needs for the class. When you look at players like Omar Manning and Alante Brown at wide receiver, or Blaise Gunnerson at strong-side defensive end, these particular needs have certainly been addressed.

Other than the names of the players listed above, there are some others in this class that fit the bill. Those include Jordon Riley, Marcus Fleming, and Keyshawn Greene. Not only do they fit that play style, they are impact playmakers. As noted in a report from Brian Christopherson of 247Sports, Nebraska came into this recruiting window looking to fill those needs. Of course, we will have to wait and see what they do on the field. However, you can’t fault them for not trying to fill the gaps from last year.

"Frost added that the two of the biggest recruiting priorities to this staff in this recruiting class were getting more skilled weapons on offense, and finding more edge guys on defense who can stack up against the run and get after the passer."

Spring ball can’t come soon enough for me. Then, will be able to see exactly what all of these guys bring to the table. Moreover, we’ll see how they will fit into the equation for Nebraska football. It’s one thing for these guys to be good at their positions. It’s another thing for them to be able to fit into what Nebraska is trying to do. Looking at many of their highlights, I have a feeling they’ll be able to fit in Lincoln in no time.

The Nebraska coaching staff identified needs that they had and they went out and got the players necessary. I give them a ton of credit. Now, it’s about maximizing the potential of these players
