Nebraska football has a wide receiver waiting in the wings.

2020 Nebraska football recruiting class certainly has some gems in it. One of them is wide receiver Alante Brown.

He along with Omar Manning, should be a staple of the Nebraska football wide receiver group for years to come. He possesses the speed and playmaking ability that a Nebraska football receiver needs to succeed in an offense. As the program looks to overhaul the position, Brown is just focused on making an impact early.

As the top player in the state of Illinois and the top wide receiver in the 2020 class, he certainly has a lot of expectations at the collegiate level. At Simeon High School in Chicago, he played at a high level in his varsity career. As an athlete, he played all over the field. He did a solid job at quarterback, throwing for eight touchdowns and two interceptions in addition to 802 passing yards. He also proved to be a competent running back, carrying the ball 70 times for 324 yards and three touchdowns.

At the wide receiver position, the two things he can do well should be able to translate to the collegiate level. His speed and runs after the catch are two things that Nebraska football will need. I could definitely see him being a starter, and him opposite  Manning will create a deadly one-two punch for the foreseeable future. Right now, he is just focused on making an impact. As he told Brian Christopherson of 247Sports, he is ready to put the pads on and contribute in Lincoln.

"“One of the goals that I really set for myself is just to make a name for myself early,” Brown said in a video released this week by Husker athletics. “Football-wise, just come in and show what I can do, what I can contribute to the team. And come in and show that even though that I’m young, I’m very smart football-wise … and I’m just overall a good athlete.”"

Much like the 2019 class, the 2020 class seems determined to make an impact. These next two classes are ones that Scott Frost is going to want to put on the field a lot next year. Last year, it was about making sure the 2019 class didn’t lose their eligibility. This year, it is time to fully see what the next couple classes can do, Brown should be a big part of that.

I’m excited to see what this offense is going to look like in the coming years. There will certainly be a lot of development going on with the younger guys this season, but such is life in a rebuild. This team should be in as a better position to compete next season. Players like Brown and energy that he brings should help pave the way for the future.
