Nebraska football will be down a receiver this year.

A former Nebraska football wide receiver has entered the transfer portal. Jaron Woodyard is seeking to play elsewhere according to a report from Brian Christopherson of 247Sports.

Woodyard played in three games in the 2019 season. Currently, he has one season left of eligibility. Woodyard was part of the group that came to Nebraska during the early signing period of 2018. Nevertheless, he was never really able to materialize at Nebraska. That was through no fault of his own, the team just had their ideal personnel on the field last year. He was the odd man out.

Nebraska football has an extremely deep wide receiver class coming in, as well as several weapons available right now. It makes sense for Woodyard to enter the portal. He would probably get a better chance at playing time somewhere else. I don’t blame him for transferring.

Initially, I thought his speed would be an asset to Nebraska, especially after the catch. Nevertheless, it never seemed like he was able to find his role on the field. Between JD Spielman, the emergence of Wan’Dale Robinson, and with Kanawai Noa seeing the field last season, Woodyard could never crack the starting lineup.

He is talented, there is no doubt about that. Especially in this wide-open era of college football, his speed will be able to land him a shot with another program. It’s unfortunate that things weren’t able to work out with Nebraska football, but I certainly understand that teams may want to go in a different direction. Especially now that Frost has established himself recruiting-wise for Nebraska, he is able to land more prominent recruits.

I wish nothing but the best for Woodyard. He definitely has the chance to be a solid football player, he just needs the right situation. Hopefully he will be able to find the right team in the transfer portal and that we see him on the field soon.
