Nebraska Basketball has a talented freshman on their hands.

It’s easy to point fingers after a difficult loss like the one Nebraska basketball had. However, I saw a particular performance that I thought was extremely impressive. At the very least, it showed why Charlie Easley earned a scholarship for the basketball program. He made the most of his minutes on Saturday night, and what was little time.

In 16 minutes of play, he scored eight points off the bench. Going two-of-four shooting on the evening, he certainly got his shots up. Perhaps more than that, he wasn’t tentative about it. I liked that. Easley is primarily a perimeter shooter, and he showed some of the capability he had on Saturday night. If anything, he was a welcome spark off the bench at a time when the starters were not able to do much.

His eight points were the most he had in a game to this point. His previous high was five against Rutgers on January 3. As a six-foot-two freshman, he is probably not going to get a ton of minutes anyways. Now, he is just working on easing into the program and making the most of the chances he is given. Especially when you take a look at this roster, he definitely has some veteran players he has to contend with.

Next year, I’ll bet that he will see more playing time. The program offered him a scholarship for a reason, and he definitely has potential. He shot 45% from beyond the arc in his senior season at Lincoln Pius X. he’s definitely one of those players that is going to fly under the radar, especially since he is a name that is not well-recognized nationally. However, games like Saturday night’s will definitely make him known in the conference.

It was great to see him build to make an impact on Saturday night. Even in the loss, he showed that he can hoop. Of course that is not a shock to many of the locals around here, but it is something he can build off for the future.
