It was a rough night for Nebraska Basketball.

Nebraska basketball knew it was going to have its hands full against a tough Indiana Hoosiers team. They certainly did, as Indiana beat Nebraska by a 74-66 score.

One of the biggest reasons why Nebraska lost on Saturday was the red-hot shooting of Indiana. They shot 51% from the field, and it seemed like they were able to get whatever they wanted inside. They out-rebounded Nebraska basketball by a 47-30 margin. One of the biggest reasons why they were able to overcome the a nine-point deficit was the play of Trayce Jackson-Davis.

More from Husker Corner

Jackson-Davis was an athletic freak on the floor in the best sense of the word. He recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds on the evening. In addition, he went six-of-eight from the free-throw line. Indiana was able to do whatever they wanted inside.   For Joey Brunk, it was the same way. He recorded 16 points and five rebounds on the evening. Throughout the course of the game, Nebraska basketball would back off him a little bit to make him shoot the mid-range shot. Brunk took what the defense gave him, and he succeeded. This didn’t look like an error on the part of Nebraska, so much as it did Brunk outsmarting them with their own game plan.

For six-foot-seven forward Justin Smith, the basket looked extremely big on Saturday night. He recorded fifteen points and seven rebounds in addition to two assists. Much like the others, he was able to get inside and find the basket with ease. It was frustrating to watch, although that wasn’t an indictment on Nebraska basketball so much as it was to how good Indiana was.

This was a classic case of Nebraska basketball getting beaten by a team who was firing on all cylinders. You could argue that they weren’t firing on all cylinders when Nebraska held their lead. However, they showed enough fortitude to hang in there and come back. Indiana has a bunch of veteran players. Nebraska basketball does not at the moment. This was extremely evident, but it was still a fun game to watch. The officiating was poor as well, but that’s a story for another day.

Next up, Nebraska basketball takes on Wisconsin at 9 PM on Tuesday. That should certainly be a tough game.
