Nebraska Basketball has a special player on their hands.

As Nebraska Basketball gets set to take on Ohio State on Tuesday, they are going to need help from all players if they want to win. Ohio State is on a losing streak of their own, having dropped their last four games. One player that I am looking forward to watching Tuesday night is Cam Mack. In a season that has seen the program be rebuilt from the inside out, Mack has proven to be the go-to-guy.

Mack is averaging 12.7 points on the season, and has really begun to heat up over his last five games. In the loss to Northwestern, he did a little bit of everything. In 40 minutes of play, he recorded 11 points, to go along with 10 rebounds and seven assists. That marked the fifth time in the last five games he has scored in double figures. The 10 rebounds were his most over the last five games, and the second time he has recorded that number. The other time was against Purdue back on December 15.

He is your classic point guard. He fits the point guard role in every sense of the word. He can do a little bit of everything. He can pass the ball, rebound, and shoot. He makes plays for others while he is on the floor. Mack leads the team with 6.8 assists per contest. He has tremendous floor vision and is able to see the court very well.

Mack is proving to be the leader for this program moving forward. That certainly a big endorsement for a guy who is in his first year with the Nebraska Basketball program. However, I am confident that he will be the player that the Huskers will continue to look towards down the stretch. He has shown as  a sophomore that he is ready to take charge. That will certainly bode well for the future of the program. I was excited about him when he came into the program, and he’s proving to be all that I expected.

I can’t wait to see what else he can do as the season progresses. I have a feeling that he could break out during the Big Ten tournament in March. Right now however, the focus is certainly shifted towards Ohio State. With the Buckeyes having lost four in a row, you can bet that they will be hungry for a win. A win for Nebraska Basketball would go a long way towards improving morale as conference play rages on.
