Nebraska Football has talented players at wide receiver for 2020.

As the new year begins and thus a new Nebraska Football season, expectations are going to be high. The wide receiver position for Nebraska didn’t provide the most production last year. Now, I feel as though 2020 will rely a lot on the underclassman. The talent is certainly evident at the position.

JD Spielman was the best upperclassman wide receiver in 2019. He recorded 49 receptions for 898 yards and five touchdowns. It’s no secret that he handled the bulk of the Nebraska wide receiving attack. Spielman along with the running backs were able to help the passing attack be sustainable. We saw a little bit of Kade Warner towards the end of the year. He recorded 109 receiving yards on the year.

This is where the 2020 recruiting class may come in. Alante Brown, Marcus Fleming, William Nixon, Omar Manning, and Zavier Betts will all have a shot at handling the wide receiving duties. It’s not like there’s a ton of competition to try and crack the lineup. The passing attack was extremely one-dimensional last year. This is why I was so thankful Nebraska was able to focus on recruiting talented wide receivers this year.

I am interested to see the talent that each of the above wide receivers brings to the table. The program now has a bunch of targets who can be impact playmakers and play at a high level. The wide receiving position did not have that last year. They had Spielman and Wan’Dale Robinson, but that’s about it. Depth was certainly lacking. Now, there is a ton of it. There are several opportunities for the Nebraska coaching staff to utilize these players.

The passing attack should be a lot better next year, and the wide receivers should be able to play a bigger part in it than before. Nebraska is going to have to put up big-time numbers if they want to compete with their conference opponents.

Next. Things look forward to in 2020. dark

The Huskers ranked seventh in the conference in scoring offense last year with 43 touchdowns on the season. Averaging 28 points per game, that was also good enough for seventh in the conference. I expect those numbers to go up next year, but who knows. The time is now for the wide receiver position and the newcomers. If they have as good a year as I think they can, the team as a whole should be in good shape next fall.
