Nebraska Basketball: Lat Mayen provides size, intrigue to roster
Nebraska Basketball picked up a commitment on Tuesday.
Nebraska Basketball picked up a commitment to close out the year. Forward Lat Mayen announced that he would join the basketball program after he completes playing for Chipola Junion College.
Mayen has an interesting path to Nebraska. He played with TCU last season but suffered a knee injury that derailed him for the rest of the 2018-19 campaign. He played in 17 games, and his best game came against West Virginia. In that contest, he recorded a career-high 12 points and six rebounds.

For the 2019-20 season, he is averaging 9.3 points per contest in 15 games played with Chipola. With a 46.5 field goal percentage and a 40% clip from long range, he certainly is a man of many skills. The number that jumps out to me statistically is his 8.1 rebounds per game. Measuring in at six-foot-nine, 205 pounds, he is the type of player that Nebraska Basketball could use. They lack size and length at the moment.
He was a member of the 2017 class, ending up at TCU via Australia. The top player in Australia, he redshirted in the 2017-18 season. He would have two seasons of basketball available in Lincoln.
This is a great pick up for the simple fact that Nebraska Basketball needs size. They lack a solid rebounder, and Mayen could provide that. The fact that he can score is also a plus. This Nebraska offense is very potent and high-octane. It sounds like Mayen would be able to fit right in. Not only that, I truly believe that he would be an impact player. Nebraska Basketball has its fair share of scorers, they just need a rebounder.
It will be interesting to see who else comes to the program. Fred Hoiberg is certainly building a team the way he sees fit. So far, the current iteration of Husker basketball has shown promise. With conference play beginning on Friday, I am eager to see what this team can do.
