Nebraska Football should certainly be able to use him.

Last week, you heard me talk about the depth at the tight end position for Nebraska football. There was a name I forgot in the article. Travis Vokolek should be able to have a big role for the team in 2020. With  depth problems at the position, he should figure to be in the mix to contribute as long as he continues his upward swing.

He was named the offensive scout team MVP at the conclusion of the season. All things considered, it was a big honor for a player who just transferred to Nebraska this year. Hopefully, he will be a big part of the equation in 2020. With Jack Stoll probably being the starter next year,  Vololek will have to fight for a backup spot.

While at Rutgers, he didn’t exactly light up the stat sheet. He caught 16 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in 2018.  However, I don’t believe the low receiving numbers were a reflection of his abilities. Rather, Rutgers didn’t really use the tight end a ton in their offense. Ironically, that sentiment is true of Nebraska as well. Hopefully, he will be able to break that trend. As tight ends coach Sean Beckton noted, Vokolek is the biggest tight end they have on the roster. Chances are, his height will make him a prime target, especially in the red zone.

"“He’s a huge human being,” tight ends coach Sean Beckton has said. “His dad is a college coach, so he understands the game … He’s all of 6-foot-7, 265 pounds, so he’s heavier than the guys that we have on the roster right now.”"

I am intrigued and excited to see what he can do. If Nebraska Football can have a tight end that can stretch the field and allow for a security blanket for the quarterbacks, I am all for it. Vokolek will certainly have the opportunity to prove himself here. This could easily be one of the coaching staff’s diamond- in-the-rough type of players. I would love to see him flourish. At the very least, if he can become an efficient blocker for the running game, that would be great.

There are a ton of players with promise on the roster for 2020. Vokolek is one of them. He probably will not be an all-American, but I feel like he can help this team. I will be interested to see how he will be used in his Nebraska career. He certainly has untapped potential and I feel like this offense can put him in a position to succeed.
