The Nebraska Football linebacker needs to continue becoming a leader.
As the calendar shifts focus to the 2020 football season, Nebraska Football needs leaders on the defensive side of the ball. One player in particular could emerge as a leader defensively. After having a great 2019 season, linebacker JoJo Domann should be in line to take charge at the position in 2020.
He set the tone for his season early. The South Alabama game was one where he really shined. He flew to the football that game, and he was a disruptor on defense. He would finish the season with 52 tackles and nine tackles for a loss. Six pass breakups, 2 ½ sacks, and two forced fumbles were also things to put on his resume. He looked comfortable and ready to play each time he was on the field.

As long as he has a fully healthy off-season, I think he can definitely reach the 70-75 tackle plateau. He is the type of player that can fly to the football. He also has tremendous instincts, and seems to be in the middle of every play. We saw that a lot this past season. The Illinois game certainly brought credence to that statement. He recorded a sack and a forced fumble. He was a bright spot it was a difficult game for both teams defensively.
He seemed to get stronger in the later months. The Purdue game was an example of that. He recorded eight tackles including one assisted tackle. In a game that the defense struggled, he continued to make plays. Now, as a senior he needs to make sure he brings that same effort to the table. He definitely can, as he never takes plays off. I was really impressed with how he was able to put together solid games every week. If nothing else, he was consistent and hard-working.
I’m looking for him to deliver the same type of consistency in 2020. There is no doubt that he is a spark plug on defense and that he plays of energy. If he can manage to become a leader on the defense, that would be great for Coach Frost and the rest of the team. I can certainly see Domann leading the charge as Nebraska Football tries to find success in what will be year three under Frost. The defense needs to be better, especially with another tough schedule ahead. As long as he stays healthy, he should be a defensive catalyst.
