The Nebraska Football legend had high praise for the center.

Cam Jurgens is getting high praise from a former Nebraska Football legend. Center Dave Rimington talked about Jurgens a little bit to the media over the weekend, and he certainly had some high praise. However, he also noted some things that the redshirt freshman has to work on.

Rimington was good at his craft in his own right. He won the Outland Trophy in 1981 and 1982. Head coach Scott Frost said in the fall of 2018 that Jurgens could be the next Remington. Although it may seem like a bold statement, especially with his problems snapping the football this season, it could happen. As Remington told Steven M. Sipple of the Lincoln Journal-Star, Jurgens is going to be a very talented player.

When I found most interesting in this interview was when Remington addressed Jurgens’ problem of snapping the football. It was something that was extremely noticeable throughout the course of the season. To make matters worse, it seemed to bog Jurgens down throughout the entirety of the 2019 campaign. Listening to Remington talk about snapping of the football, it sounds like a simple fix for Jurgens.

I hope he gets this problem fixed before the beginning of next season. He definitely has the size and potential to be successful. At six-foot-three, 285 pounds, Jurgens is definitely the proper size for a center. The fact that he can move so well is a bonus too. Especially with mobile quarterbacks, having a mobile offensive line is certainly an asset. If he could just get snapping down a little better, he could end up being one of the best centers in the country.

"“Cam’s just got to get a little stronger and a little more consistent with his snaps. To me, a lot of Adrian Martinez‘s problems were a result of the ball being all over the place. In that offense, you have to keep your eyes downfield.”"

I agree with his assessment there. With the high snaps comes a break in rhythm. I truly do think the high snaps messed up Martinez a little bit. If Jurgens can work on not snapping the ball as high and getting off consistent, level, snaps, he will be in much better shape heading into next season. The potential is there. If you are able to get Dave Rimington’s endorsement, you are doing okay.
