Nebraska Football: 2020 class gets even better with Jimari Butler addition
Recruiting keeps going well for Nebraska Football.
It’s not even Early Signing Day yet, and Nebraska Football has landed yet another recruit. 2020 three-star weak-side defensive end Jimari Butler committed to the program. He made the announcement on Twitter earlier Monday afternoon.
Butler is the 35th overall weak side defensive end in his class, and the 32nd overall player in his class from the state of Alabama per the 247Sports composite rankings. He was recruited to Nebraska by Erik Chinander. Many other teams were in the hunt during his recruitment. In addition to Nebraska, he also received offers from TCU, Tennessee, Illinois, and Kansas.
He was originally committed to Tennessee, but he came out to Lincoln and felt comfortable with the Nebraska coaching staff as noted per a report from Mike Schaefer of 247Sports.
He gives Nebraska Football another-pass rusher. In watching some of his highlights, he is able to use his speed and explosiveness to gain the upper hand on an offensive lineman. At six-foot-five, 220 pounds, he is definitely a matchup problem for any offensive lineman. Some players make pass-rushing only a part of their arsenal. Butler is a pure pass-rusher and that’s exactly what Nebraska needs.
Over the last couple of days, Nebraska Football has made it clear that they are working on getting pass-rushers. With the commitment of Nico Cooper on Sunday night, the defense is getting stronger by the day. With Cooper, Junior Aho and Eveta Mauga-Clements, there are some extremely strong defensive line commitments coming down the pipe. It will be interesting to see what Nebraska does on National Signing Day. It seems like they got the bulk of their work done before that, as this weekend was huge in terms of commitments.
The fact that Nebraska was able to land Butler was huge. He adds another weapon in the defensive arsenal. This commitment moves Nebraska up to No. 20 in the 2020 247Sports Team rankings. This recruiting class is getting better and better by the day. I’m really excited for the direction of this recruiting class, and I am confident that this class will move up in the rankings before all is said and done.
The Nebraska Football coaching staff deserves a pat on the back for their efforts this weekend. They landed a lot of impact players in a short amount of time. I can’t wait to see Butler and the others on the field in what will probably be sooner rather than later.
