It was a fun weekend for Nebraska Basketball.

What a weekend for Nebraska Basketball. I wanted them to show me something this weekend and they did. They showed all of us exactly what they are made of when they are firing on all cylinders.

Let’s start with Friday’s game against Indiana. They took a very tough Indiana team to overtime, losing 96-90. Not only did they take Indiana to overtime, they challenged them in the hallowed grounds of Assembly Hall. Hitting 12 three-pointers on Friday, they had one of their best three-point shooting games of the season. They hung in against a very solid Indiana team and showed that they had a team full of scorers. Thorir Thorbjarnarson had 17 points on Friday, and Cam Mack scored 15 on the evening. It was really a precursor of what was to come later on in the weekend.

Mack and the Nebraska Basketball team defeated Purdue by a 70-59 score. Once again, Mack had his fingerprints all over the game. He scored 11 points on the day, and had 10 rebounds and 12 assists. He recorded the first triple-double in Nebraska Basketball history. Something certainly has to be said for that. Purdue came into this game on a win streak, and for Nebraska to snap it was extremely impressive.

The Nebraska Basketball team showed growth this weekend. They fought hard and they played well. I truly think you’re going to see them fight hard over the next couple of weeks, particularly as conference play continues. Staying  with this team  can be frustrating at times, and the Creighton game was a perfect example of that. However, this team is going to be a lot of fun.

Stay with this team through the peaks and the valleys. I’ll admit, I still have some reservations about this team, but there is no doubt that they have made strides in comparison to where they were at the beginning of the season. This weekend was full of big-time college basketball for Nebraska. In my estimation, they passed this test. With them being so young, the highs are going to be really high and the lows will be really low.

You should definitely expect them to win, but don’t set outlandish expectations. Many of us made that mistake with the football program. Enjoy the ride that will be the 2019-20 season. Less stress will make the victories even sweeter. I can definitely see that The Mayor is building something special.  That was evident this weekend. I can’t wait to see where this team goes from here.
