Nebraska Football is unsure of Robinson’s health as it relates to Friday’s game.
Another week, another instance where Nebraska Football is unsure if freshman sensation Wan’Dale Robinson can play. With this being a short week, it would make sense to keep him on the sidelines. However, this isn’t just any random week. It’s the Iowa game, and a chance at a bowl berth for the Nebraska football program.
I really hope he can go. He has truly been a spark plug for the team. So far, head coach Scott Frost has kept things close to the vest when discussing Robinson’s injury. I get why he’s doing it, he doesn’t want to set any expectations for the injured guys. Especially if they can’t play, that would make them look bad. However, an update on Robinson’s injury would certainly be appreciated.
If I am Frost, I leave it up to Robinson. This is a huge game for the program. If Robinson can’t go, he can’t go. From a coaching standpoint, I would have all my talent ready to go. I’m sure this is a game that Robinson does not want to sit out if he can help it. Playing in a bowl game as a freshman would certainly be exciting. From an offensive standpoint, Robinson adds so much to that unit. From runs to catching out of the backfield, to turning on the jets after catches, Robinson can do it all.
Even still, Frost gave an open-ended quote on Wednesday that may indicate Robinson is playing after all. Something tells me we won’t truly find out until kickoff. As Brian Christopherson of 247Sports notes, Frost has elected to keep all injury information in-house. That’s nothing new of course, but it certainly doesn’t stop me from wondering.
"What about the team’s health? Mum has been the word on Wan’Dale Robinson and continues to be. “We’ve got some guys banged up. That’s football this time of year.” But Frost did add this optimistic line, “I think there’s a few guys that have a chance to play that haven’t played lately, and we’ll see where it falls.”"
Hopefully, Robinson falls under the category of one of those guys that has a chance to play. The team needs him, although they have shown they can win without him. This Iowa team is tough. I expect nothing less than a back-and-forth game. It’s time for Nebraska Football to leave it out on the field. They know how much this game means. I would expect nothing less than a hard-fought game.
