There is still another layer of the Nebraska Football program that has not gotten a chance to show their worth. 2020 may be their year.

Not too many programs have a luxury quite like Nebraska Football. As the season rolls on, we have become very familiar with names and faces. Many of the roster numbers are etched into our brains by now. However, we have a whole other group of players to see. In what is a smart move, head coach Scott Frost and his coaching staff are saving them for later.

The 2019 freshman class is extremely talented. We have seen players like Luke McCaffrey and Wan’Dale Robinson make huge impacts already. There are also some players who the staff has not played yet that should provide a spark as well. Guys like Noa Pola-Gates, Myles Farmer, Nick Heinrich, Jackson Hannah, Bryce Benhart, and Jimmy Fritzsche have yet to see the field for Nebraska Football.

There is no denying that some of them should be able to get a shot next year. This group of players is extremely talented in their own right. Combined with the recruiting efforts that the Nebraska Football coaching staff is putting forward and the efforts of these players throughout the course of the season, next year should provide a young and talented group. We have seen several times over the course of the season where depth could have been used. Next year, these guys could provide not only depth, but serviceable depth. In turn, they will be able to get their opportunities to impress the coaching staff.

It’s just crazy to me that there are so many talented players waiting in the wings. To be honest, I had forgotten about some of these names. However, the more I look at the players who are not playing right now, the better I feel about the future. As we sit with a tough road ahead, it is a sort of silver lining. Obviously, the play of Nebraska Football has not been what we have wanted to be lately, but there is opportunity for future success.

Head coach Scott Frost told the media earlier in the week that practices with this group have been productive. That is certainly good to hear. I have a feeling that some of these guys are going to be playing big roles for the program in the future.

"“The Friday practices look completely different than they did a year ago,” Husker head coach Scott Frost said the other day. “Even if some of those guys aren’t ready to play, I think there’s a lot of guys in that group that are going to be contributing real soon.”"

It’s intriguing to think about what Nebraska has in store for the future. This group of players will undoubtedly be able to help Nebraska build a solid foundation. I don’t know what the foundation is completely going to look like down the road, but these players will undoubtedly be part of it.
