More in-game adjustments
In-game adjustments are something the Nebraska football coaching staff has been lacking. I understand wanting to stick to a specific part of the game plan. However, when that part of the game plan is not working, the Nebraska coaches need to do a better job of putting the players in a position to succeed.
I understand that it’s a hard thing to do. However, the Nebraska coaching staff needs to make a concerted effort to switch up the game plan if something is not working. Take for example in last week’s game against Indiana. A lot of runs either by the quarterback or a running back were sent to the middle of the defensive line. Indiana was getting good pressure up the middle. As a result, the runs would go for no gain. Only a few times did Nebraska actually bounce to the outside.
If something is not working, the Nebraska coaches need to fix it. If something is working, they shouldn’t be hesitant to go back to it. Making adjustments on the fly is something that you do in college football. Wisconsin and Iowa will make you pay dearly if they notice flaws in your game. Game planning before the contest is important, but in-game adjustments could be the difference between winning and losing these types of games. I’ll be interested to see exactly what types of in-game adjustments Nebraska goes to the next couple weeks.
