Hixson is developing like Nebraska Football had hoped.

As you can attest to, Nebraska Football has had an up-and-down season. So too, have some of its players. One of them includes offensive lineman Trent Hixson. However, he is turning around his season in a good way.

Hixson figures to be a big part of the offensive line on Saturday against Purdue. That is quite a turnaround from when he was quite literally run over on the last play of the game against Minnesota on October 12. However, as offensive line coach Greg Austin told the media on Wednesday, Hixson has been improving.

This is great news to hear, especially since Hixson is a sophomore. At this stage of his Nebraska career, he is still building and developing. He should figure to be a big part of the line next year, and the snaps will only help him moving forward. If anything, Hixson’s development serves as a bright spot for not only the remainder of this year, but next year as well.

Nebraska Football will need as much help on the line as they can get. This year, they have looked really good in some games, and really poor in others. A consistent performance over the next couple of games will go a long way into building for next season. Especially with quarterback Adrian Martinez planning to be under center, this will be a good test for the line to see if they are better than when Martinez last started. So far, the quarterback and the line have not gelled as well as some had hoped.

Austin is optimistic about Hixson’s progress. His versatility is also something that has endeared him to the Nebraska coaching staff. Versatility on an offensive line is always an asset. So far, Hixson has risen up to the challenge of performing better than that dreadful Minnesota game.

"“One off the things I said to him was, ‘I’ll never give up on you, bro, but I need more,’” Austin said. “And he practiced better and consequently he played better.”"

I’m excited to see what he can do. I think he will be a piece of the line in the future. It all starts now, and the line themselves are going to be playing high-pressure snaps. Hixson just needs to worry about continuing to improve and playing at a high level. He has a bright future, and definitely has the ability to be a mainstay in Lincoln on Saturdays.
